The E46 M3 vert is a wonderful car, it may not have the absolute handling of the Coupe but top down with that awesome soundtrack, makes up for any loss in rigidity IMO! 161BMW 1,697 posts One of the major differences in maintenance is that M3's require valve adjustments. If you are concerned about cash, don't get an e46; BMW parts are generally more expensive than Japanese or American brands. And most non-bmw shops love to stick it to you when you bring a BMW for service.
Depending on what maintenance has been done, expect to pour another $1-2k into it in parts to bring it up to snuff. If you decide you can forego the ZHP, a closer price would be $7,500 and up for a non-ZHP E46. Maintenance will be basically the same between a non-ZHP E46 and a ZHP E46. If you decide to go for a non-ZHP E46, I definitely suggest
GuidoK. The difference between the 330i rear trailing arm and the normal e46 rear trailing arm is that the 330i has a bigger rear brake with bigger diameter rear parking brake shoes. So the parts on the rear trailing arm that hold down the parking brake shoes are on a different spot and the mounting holes from the back plate are also different.
Basically the s54 engine has much higher volumetric efficiency, is higher displacement and revs higher. For what it is worth, you can get ~300-350 hp out of the 3.0 while still staying normally aspirated and without boring or stroking the engine. Check out some of the club race cars based on the e46 platform.
Plus you will never get that money back out of the ZHP. where as a clean well maintained E46 M3 6MT has been holding its value pretty darn good and would slowly rise like the E30 M3 in the future, even with slight mods. expect to pay 20+ and up to 30 for a super clean low mileage M3 03.5+.
Limited Slip Differentials for BMW 3 Series E46 (1999-2005) BMW stopped using truly limited-slip differentials with the advent of the E9X and E60 platforms. The advantages between an open and limited-slip differential are seconds on the track and a massive increase in corner exit grip. Tuner motorsports offer many different types of LSDs' to
So Spec E46 is now a thing and it’s pretty damn cool. In this new video from The Smoking Tire, Matt Farah drives a Spec E46 BMW 330ci at the #GRIDLIFE Motorsports and Music Festival at Gingerman

BMW's get pricey to maintain, and modifications are more expensive. G35's are cheaper to maintain and easier to modify, but don't look nearly as good as the Ci Coupe. The Ci is an E46 car, which was the series just before the E90. My personal 330i is the E90 variant, which is up-tuned form the E46 car, stiffer suspension, but also a bit fatter.

I've had three three series (two e46) and an X3, and am now looking at a 135i that is a good value. I liked the 1-series much more than the new 3-series, but I actually would almost prefer the 128 because honestly, the turbo scares me a little -- I usually drive my BMWs to well over 100k. Main 325Ci/330Ci packages include: Premium (four-way front-seat power lumbar support, auto-dimming mirror, Homelink, BMW telematics--all but Telematics are 330Ci standards); Sport (Sport

Yes, I would expect OEM parts to be generally the best quality. That said, I buy plenty of after-market parts and have saved a ton of money. On coils, one of my OEM parts failed at ~200K miles. I bought a set of 6 coils for $60 on EBay (this was ~4-5 years ago). At the time a set of OEM coils would've cost 3-4X as much.
The E30 has better support locally, obviously it is a known model and people track it like mad, same for any 3 series for that matter. ATM my "project" E82 is on hold while i seriously consider other options. 2012 E82 125i - VIN 51467 - 330i/130i front discs (330x24) - Alpine White - Brown Leather.

The sport package wheels in the rear of the 330Ci are 8", and this info tells us the track of the M3 is 1.9" wider. There's no way that's all in the wheels, because the ///M doesn't have 10" wheels. I'd guess the control arms are somewhere around .4" wider. Sent from my 831C using E46Fanatics mobile app.
there are more e46 m3's than there are e82's, the 135i is quite a bit more rare, and the 08 has the N54. Cost of ownership is higher on the 135i due to HPFP, walnut blasting and turbo's, E46 is simply adjusting valves. they both drive and feel very similar, I would be happy with either one but I choose 135i. .
